I just bought a 92 rs 5.0 i had the fuel pump, engine coil, diode chip, replaced
it is like there is no spark going to the plugs it tries to turn over but it does nothing. the fuel pump comes on. any ideas what it is?

You need to install some spark. Lol. Seriously though, what is a diode chip? Do you mean the ignition control module? Or maybe the diodes in the alternator? First, perform a simple spark test. Since you already know you've got no spark to atleast one plug, start by checking for spark at the coil. If no spark there, use a 12v test light to check for signal at the white wire to the coil. First test with the test light's ground clamp on a good ground, you should get a bright flashing light as the engine cranks. Next try the test with the light's ground clamp connected to battery+. You should get a dim flashing light. If no flash, you have an issue in the distributor. If you just replaced the ICM, you may have a bad pick up coil or a poor connection. Of course, verify 12 volts at the pink wire to the coil and check all connections to the coil and distributor.
If you have spark at the coil look for a problem with the cap, rotor, or wires.

Sorry for messing with you. Welcome to TGO. Still want to know what you mean by diode chip.

It's a Volvo with a wanna be cool looking stainless steel body. The car has the feel of a project that ran out of time and was rushed together at the last minute. BTW, don't ever buy one of these cars. They suck!

Yeah. I kind of alluded to this in my first reply to you. The ICM is a common failure item. Unfortunately, just behind the ICM in failure rate, is the pick up coil. The test for this is a simple resistance test. To replace it though you need to tear down the dist. It's often better to just replace the dist as a whole. Glad your car is running again.
