Will this sending unit work with my car?

So on my 84 z28, its got an LG4 engine in it and my sending unit is gone out since they gas gauge is not accurate and im sure the gauge is not broken...I got a mechanical fuel pump but was wondering if this would fit my gas tank?seems pretty simple that's why I liked it?and could I also just wire this to an aftermarket fuel gauge?thanks!

or any other suggestion for sending units??thanks again!

Is there some reason you would not just buy a stock replacement? I mean, the gague and sender are calibrated to the same spec (and guaranteed to fit) so...... what's the problem with that?

i think most (or all)GM from~1965 to around late-80s all used the same resistor unit on the sender-if your resistor is bad,you could probably salvage a good resistor from about any GM sender from the era mentiond-i used resistor from '83 impala sender to fix '68 chevy pickup sender-looked and worked exactly the samejust had to bend some tabs or something to switch out.Could check the full VS empty ohms of the sender to be sure it is bad before dropping tank.

Re: Will this sending unit work with my car?

well Ima just end up making a cut on the top of my tank to get to the unit (easier) but for this sender dont i just need to match it with a gauge that has the same ohms?but im still not sure if itll fit though?

I was also looking at something like this:

anyone know how come the first one looks a lot simpler than this one?

Re: Will this sending unit work with my car?

The first one only looks simpler, until you have to cut a new hole in your gas tank to mount it. The second one you showed looks allot more like the thing the factory used. The sending unit is permanently attached to the pickup assembly. The fuel pump mounts onto this too. The original GM pickup assembly cost over $400 from a dealership back in 2000. Rockauto should have the exact part you need.
