Blue print budget 383

i was just wondering what all i would have to buy to make this bolt up to the 700R4... i am going to use my current HSR intake and probaly get new injectors and msd ign kit. would the stock ecm work with all of this, or would i have to go with an after market ecm?

Oh and will the l98 water pump/pwr stearing pump bolt to this?

Re: Blue print budget 383

Man I really wish that thing didnt have a flat tappet cam. It actually looks relatively decent for an affordable crate engine otherwise. Those blueprint aluminum heads arent bad at all.

Its a 1 pc RMS block, which means it just might have provisions for factory roller hardware, but you may never know one way or the other. That also means its a newer block (good), and that also means your factory parts will botl up to it, your flexplate and 700r4 will be fine on it.

EVERYTHING thats bolted to your L98 needs to go on this. Serpentine brackets, sensors, sending units, water pump, all of it. They will all work fine as long as you keep them together.

Hopefully heads have all the right accessories bolt locations else you may miss a bolt ot two. Should still work but just something to note. As said above looks like everything else will bolt in. Looks like a strong budget motor. Abit more cam could get 450 hp out of it lol

Re: Blue print budget 383

So the stock ecm will work, thats nice to know considering aftermarket ecm's are about 1200$. but im guessing i will have to send it off for some re-flashing/programing. prolly gunna go with some 34lb/hr injectors, AFPR and stuff. i plan on doing this over the winter so i will def keep you guys posted, it should be a screaming demon when its int here haha... i just hope i dont gut my 700r4/ 9-bolt.

Re: Blue print budget 383

The most important thing to find out is how the engine is balanced. It should be one of two ways, but there is also a third possibility.

If it is a 'normal' internal 1-piece RMS balance then your current/stock damper & flexplate can be used.

It may be a 400 balance, which means a different damper & flexplate is required.

The third possibility is that it is a 2-piece RMS balance. Hopefully not, but you never know. In this case the current/stock damper is used. And the flexplate will be a neutral balance. Not sure if one is made like that for a 1-piece RMS set up. But can always remove the dog-bone and have it neutral balanced.

RBob.

Stock ecm will work but will need reprogrammed for that setup and if you keep stock tpi on it, it will be a restriction. That motor wants to go to 5500 rpm easily and stock tpi wont allow that. Will be torquey tho. Good notes by RBob. Most 1 pc motors should be neutral balanced/ internal balanced so stock style flexplate would work. Definately double check

You can tune your ECM for a lot less than $1200

Re: Blue print budget 383

Me either... til I bought one of these.... EBL P4 Flash
He has "base" files you can pick, adjust injector size if needed and begin from there...
It's a little more work than the $1200+ systems, but not $800 worth for me

Re: Blue print budget 383

that last statement may confuse him,, the extra work he wouldn't have to do with the more expensive stuff isn't worth paying the extra $800 to not have to do it, and when he is done he will know how to tune his own car and have data logging features plus the capability to turn on the highway lean feature to save on highway gas mileage hats off to RBob for restraining to plug his own stuff when it was definitely viable just shows his professionalism but you should look into the dynamicefi web site and the tuning with ebl thread on this site long read but very informative i have read it 4 times here https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/diy-...uning-ebl.html .. Re: Blue print budget 383

Yeah, what he said (my brain vs mouth vs typing is not always equal)...
If $$$ is no problem, a $1200+ system may be easier / faster...
If you want to save $800, the system that RBob sells, is amazing...
It's a bit more of a learning curve than the $1200+ systems, but not bad...
I own one, RBob has always been a great help, usually answering emails same day or next and there are others well versed members here on this board that can help, since you use Tuner Pro to tune the engine...
I was having a problem with the car dying at idle, and with basic minimal knowledge, I was able to raise the idle up (temporarily) until I could get it to the mechanic for work...
When you're driving a stick shift car, and the engine dies while exiting the highway on a round curve, not fun...

Basically, just another happy RBob customer, please consider it a choice....
