Speedometer trouble...(tried searching, didn't help)
for as long as I've owned my car, my speedometer has been off by about 5 miles. i've adapted to this, what baffles me is that on very cold mornings while driving down the road i occasionally hear a buzzing noise coming from my dash (sounds similar to a loose screw thats vibrating) and when its making noise my speedo gets all wacky and starts bouncing around all over the place. once my car warms up it won't make the noise anymore. its always had a little bounce to it but its REALLY bad when its cold.
is it a loose cable? or are these electronic controlled? I have an '89 IROC by the way. how do i go about fixing this?

mine does the same thing, only it's off by 15 and will buzz whenever it feels like, doesn't matter if its hot or cold. Let me know what you find if you get in the car and look

With two decades of crud build up in the housing, I'd suggest yanking the cable, cleaning it and the housing and relubing. If you haven't taken a peek at the link above, you might consider it.
