extended start and sputtering

Greeting eveyone,
My IROC, a stock L98 350 tpi is currently having some issues and i'm hoping someone can help me out. My IROC has extended cranking and sputtering issues. When I go out and start the car (first start of the day) it will crank for some time and turn over, but when it does turn over it sputters and I have to tap on the gas pedal once to get it going. It doesn't matter if the weather is cold or hot. The car stays on after that a little rough until the engine warms up. After that the car starts everytime without a problem. The following parts are new: (bosch type III south bay injectors), ecm, fuel pressure regulator, coolant temp sensor, 180 degree thermostat, fuel pump, fuel filter, fuel pump relay, iac, tps cap, rotor, wires and plugs.
The extended cranking and sputtering was there before and after replacing mentioned parts. When I replaced the fuel pump relay the issues went away for a week or so until last week when issues came up again. I have always heard the fuel pump engage when starting the car. Can anybody please help me let me know what is wrong? The car does have a small radiator leak if that matters.

Thank you all in advance.

A few simple ideas

Sounds like fuel pump ? But you have a new one ... ?
A mechanic noticed mine having some extra crank time, said a diaphraim inside the pump allowing fuel to drain back into tank after a long rest.

I keep my tank full all the time, never let it below half, make sure the fill cap is holding pressure. If below half, get fuel starve lopes on a left turn.

Just some ideas, the AF leak will not affect start up, unless it was a head gasket.

Re: extended start and sputtering

Thanks for replying Jersey89GTA, but fuel pump is less than a year old. My issues with my car have been happening before and after fuel pump install and the rest of the new parts. I exchanged and installed the fuel pump relay (still under warranty) thinking it was culprit. My IROC is still acting up only on first start of the day.

just a thought but is your battery fully charged. mine was doing that a few days ago and I hooked it up to a battery charger and it was pulling 12 amps, Idk how it was able to crank but it was doing what you were describing and after an hour or so and it fixed the problem basically

Re: extended start and sputtering

A good fuel pressure gauge is not much at your local auto parts place...great diagnostic for fuel injected cars. I'd still say check the fuel pressure. My Grand National acted like that, I chased all sorts of parts, turned out the small rubber hose from the pump to the pickup had split.

Thanks for replying Black92B4c. I dont have one at the moment. Guess I will check for one tommorow. The fuel pressure checked out great when injectors, fpr etc.were installed.

Re: extended start and sputtering

Might have a leak inside the fuel tank, Sometimes the hose above the pump will go bad, you need the gauge first to see if its bleeding down.

Re: extended start and sputtering

I was reading on the forums about priming the fuel pump 2 or 3 times before starting the car (I think thats what it is called turning key without starting). I tried that and my IROC started without a hitch. I'll try again tomorrow and keep you guy's posted.

P.S. Weather was really cold for south Texas (mid 40's). I dont think it had anything to do with it. Lol.

Re: extended start and sputtering

Update

The iroc has been turning on without any problems. I still prime the fuel pump before starting her. I haven't had time to check fuel pressure because of the holidays, but like I mentioned before she has acted like this way before and after fuel pump/ injector swap along with all the other parts mentioned on my first post.
Anyone has any ideas?

Thanks

Bad fuel pressure regulator? Need a gauge to check it.
