Performer intake 25 hp gain on L69?

http://www.darklair.com/monte/L69.buildup.html

I came across this on a Monte Carlo website. They are apparently saying that you can expect a 25 hp gain on the Edlebrock performer intake....

I know there are dissenting views of this, but I think that if you are running aftermarket exhaust and hooker headers, etc. then the increase in power with the performer intake over the stock intake may be the result of the cumulative effect of the exhaust / header combo...

If this is true, then for $150 for a 25hp gain is quite a bargain...hmmm

Is the monte carlo L69's stock intake the same as the f-body L69 stock intake manifold?

I wouldn't attribute the whole 25 HP to the intake.

The Performer is pretty similar to the stock intake.

So is it safe to assume that there is a certain amount of performance "synergies" that are needed to see the 25 hp that they are claiming,...... or is it the fact that the Monte Carlo L69's have a less than capable intake manifold than the "f" bodies that we know and love?

They both have the same intake.

The link says they put on the intake and did a "timing change" for the second run. Without knowing the before and after details for the timing you can't say anything about the intake alone.

I can however tell you that I put a performer RPM on a 305 in my G series van. The engine had a generic 204/214 @ .050 cam in it, doug thorley tri-Y headers, and exhaust. I had the aluminum Q-Jet factory intake on it with the factory Q-Jet, replaced the factory intake with the performer RPM and it was a very noticeable difference even with the same Q-Jet and 10* initial timing I was running.

A Performer RPM is a decent upgrade over stock.
