Need a new oil pan
I'm swapping a 69 350 into my 88 Camaro (from a V6). The original pan is pretty beat up so I'm going to replace it. I'm assuming I need to get a pan that would fit a 3rd gen that is a pre-roller (82-86) engine, correct? Are there any pans that anyone would recommend to use or stay away from? I'm just looking for a stock replacement, not a performance pan. I don't think just any pre-87 SBC pan will fit...
I will be running some sort of headers with a Y-pipe, just haven't decided on which headers yet, I'm still working on getting the short block in. Not sure if that will make a difference.

Re: Need a new oil pan
I had to use one just from a local parts store.Im thinking the pre roller blocks use a different pan so that sounds right. It is a dorman brand. Actually a nice piece for stock. Id go with one of them. Dont go chrome or anything, those things like to leak

I hate the look of chrome "anything" on an engine, sorry if I offend anyone. I have seen dorman pans on the typical auto parts sites, but I just want to confirm what pan I should order.

Re: Need a new oil pan
Gotta be a 80 (more or less) or earlier.
Any pan for a Camaro, Chevelle, or Monte Carlo from the 70s will work fine.
My favorite is this one http://www.summitracing.com/parts/nal-360450/overview/ which requires a windage tray; I usually use this one http://www.summitracing.com/parts/mor-23020/overview/ with the GM main studs for it, which I can't seem to find on the web right at the moment.

Re: Need a new oil pan
I hear ya on the chrome, too much work to keep up with and seeing a motor with the cheap *** chrome breathers and other misc crap on it ,well thats why I like either black or aluminum. That dorman pan should fit though not many choices for these years anyway.
