Favorite cam for Super Rammed 383 ?

10.5 - 1
30 LB.
D Port Heads
58 MM TB

Is it still the road tested Lingenfelter 219 or has something bigger and badder came along? It's in a rag top used for cruising around, just looking for something street/driver friendly that will still be able to get out of it's own way.

Currently has a Crane 2032 that was in it when I bought the car, but for me, it's not enough cam.

Thanks!

And I'm more interested in seat of my pants torque than hi revving HP.

What heads? Does it run ok with that compression and small cam? 219 works well and is pretty mild with a 383. Good torque cam. Abit bigger would be something like the 280xfi but its abit harder to control. Requires good stiff double springs or beehives. Will pull to 5800-6000 if heads are decent and intake is ported a tad. 383 is alot of cubes to feed

I have a 280xfi in my Super Ram 385 and really like the cam. I agree with Orr, it peaks at 5800(unported SR) on the dyno and I had to use the comp 26918 beehive springs that Comp suggested. 15 years ago I would have went with the Lingenfelter 219 cam but right now the 280xfi seems to be one of the best off the shelf cams for a Super Ram 383.

Could go with the 268XFi, it dances around the LPE219 cam's specs with the newer lobe profile. Because of those profiles you do need a good set of springs, I chewed a set up with my 280 recently, went with AFR 8019 springs with the new heads to keep everything under control.

It has ported corvette d port heads. And to answer your question, its a dog. Obviously can't compare it to my supercharged camaro, but I will say that I'm pretty sure my bone stock 93 Typhoon would run circles around it.

Haven't been to the track or anything with it, but I would be very surprised if it could get into the 13's, and that's with 3.42s. My guess would be around a 14.20 if I had to put money on it.

Re: Favorite cam for Super Rammed 383 ?

Yeah the 2032 cam is a stock replacement type cam and not known for big power but it should still be much quicker than 14's lol. Is the tune good? Those heads like loads of timing. 40 deg cruise and higher, and 36-38 wot.

Bigger cam will help some but depends how ported the vette heads are, if mild work then they probably wont support alot of power

Re: Favorite cam for Super Rammed 383 ?

That Superram will run great with a wide range of cams.
A friend of mine had the Lingenfelter 383 LT1 in his Impala with the 219/219 cam, 11.0:1 CR. Later he rebuilt it to about 11.5:1 and installed a Comp street series solid roller 242/246 cam and the car was a complete animal at any speed with the 3200 vigilante converter.
