Camshaft Swap

So I finally found a cam that I would like to put into my LO3 V8 engine. I was wondering if there was anything I need to know before installing one? I do plan on getting new valve springs if I do a swap, and the cam comes with new lifters, is there anything that I need to know before swapping this? Any restrictions? Things is need to do to make it work? Parts I should get to ensure nothing breaks? Thanks for your help.

Heres the Cam:

You realize you can buy the XR258HR-12 cam by itself for $300 and reinstall your old roller lifters?

Or if needing new lifters buy the better LS1 lifters for a total cheaper price than the Comp kit

Take your time and keep track of all the parts. It's not too hard.

What else are you going to do to the car? At the very least you will need a full 3" exhaust + headers, new intake, and a tune so it runs good.

I plan on getting the edelbrock performer intake manifold, headers, jus recently installed 3 inch exhaust up to the cat.

Well my valvetrain has over 150,000 miles on it, so making such a drastic upgrade on cam lift and duration is just asking to break things unless the necessary piece replacements are made e.g lifters, valve springs, rocker arms.

Car: Yes
Engine: Usually
Transmission: Sometimes
Axle/Gears: Behind me somewhere
Re: Camshaft Swap

That cam will ABOSLUTELY NOT work with stock valve springs. You MUST replace them with decent aftermarket ones.

You don't really need new lifters unless your existing ones are defective in some way.

It's a good choice for an otherwise mostly stock TBI motor though.

Re: Camshaft Swap

Id probably replace the stock roller lifters if they have a boatload of miles on them. My experience with them is that the rollers start to pit after a while. Get replacements from GM. Some of the aftermarket ones are pure crap.
