Re: engine oil additives

I am not a scientific expert but it seems like an overkill do it every time if you are using the car all the time. I don't see the benefit of the restore and stabilizer on every oil change unless you either don't trust the oil you use or you are having engine troubles, I guess. I don't think it will hurt anything though. Every has their preference as I used to only use 8 qts of Valvoline 20W50 on my old engine and now it is 8 qts of Royal Purple Synthetic 20W50. So it all a matter of preference.

I wanted know if it harm the engine, got into debate/argument at work about using.the restore along with lucas and oil reason being oil already has detergents to fight sludge but additives help as well to do that and more just want to know what im doing is wrong or right

Whatever oil you're using, search for their customer tech service number, give them a call and ask about using some other company's additive. You'll get the same answer from any one of them - not needed, will not help, we won't back our product if something else is added to it.
Yes, all oils have "additives". But, all oils are formulated to meet the requirements stated. Put more in, even if it's more of the same additives they used in their formulation, and the final "product" will likely not meet the requirements that the original formulation did.
Use the best oil that meets your needs, and don't try to improve it.
(FWIW, several years ago the 3800 in our Bonneville broke a cam. I found a replacement engine, was told it was good, turned out it had low compression in 2 cylinders. I suspect it was left exposed outside before they sold it to me. I used Restore, maybe brought compression up 5 psi - probably as much due to the fresh oil as the Restore. Kept using it over the next couple of years, no improvement after the first use.)

Re: engine oil additives
The more additives you put in, the less oil there is.
Explain how having less oil is somehow "good".
If you can manage that, then you're ready to leave some of the oil out and put something else in instead.

How is oil "unstable" that a "stabilizer" would provide any benefit?

Not saying oil is unstable but will make the oil thicker and help to stop any minor oil leaks with lucas

Re: engine oil additives
If oil needed to be "thicker" engine manufacturers would specify it that way, and if you've got a leak you need a new gasket or seal instead of snake oil.
At best, additives are a solution in search of a problem.

Re: engine oil additives
Not all oil is created equal conventional is basic or just the bare essentials but adding lucas to make it perform a lil better doesnt hurt it either i may be wrong but the way i look at it js why do you put chevron , or shell or any gas that has additives to clean intake valves and so on right why not just put regular gas and buy a fuel injector cleaner that does the same thing now wont oil additives be in similar function

Re: engine oil additives
Q: How do I use Lucas Oil Stabilizer in my vehicle?
A: It is recommended that you add the Oil Stabilizer with every oil change (20% Stabilizer, 80% Oil). You may also use the stabilizer to top off between oil changes in order to help reduce oil consumption in an older engine, or maintain peak performance in a new engine.
Q: How many miles do I need to have on my vehicle before I can start using Lucas Oil Stabilizer?
A: You don't have to have a specific amount of wear before you start using our Oil Stabilizer. We use it in brand new engines ourselves! Put in a quart each time you change the oil in your car. You should be able to go at least 50% longer between oil changes and your engine will last much, much longer.
Q: Can I use Lucas Oil Stabilizer in anything else in my vehicle besides my engine?A; Yes, In addition to being great for your engine, you can also mix it 25% / 75% in the transmission (manual requiring gear oil) and 50% / 50% in the differential. Lucas Oil Stabilizer blends with any petroleum-based or synthetic oil, and is formulated for gasoline or diesel engines. Q: Heavy Duty Oil Stabilizer seems pretty thick, Can I use it in my small car that requires light weight oil?A: In newer and smaller vehicles that require light weight oils such as 5W-30, we recommend our Pure Synthetic Oil Stabilizer. Pure Synthetic Stabilizer was developed specifically for engines that run on lighter weight engine oils and in newer vehicles. Q: Will using Lucas Stabilizer void the factory warranty on my new vehicle?
A: No, using Lucas Stabilizer will not void a new car warranty. Stabilizer is a 100% petroleum product that will blend with both synthetic and non-synthetic oils
^From lucas site!!
Ive personally used it all of my vehicles including my race car with no problems EVER!

Re: engine oil additives
I think its all just a matter of personal preference. May have had some people try additives with problems that already existed knocking, banging, smoking blah blah blah! Then when the motor crapped out they wanted to blame the additive when it didnt miraculously cure an engine knock, smoke, etc. Bottom line is take better care of your engine and you may not find yourself in such a shitty pair of shoes like others have been. Just saying!

Re: engine oil additives
Think about it people, If these snake oils were any good, don't you think the oil companies would jump the band wagon and cash in ?
Wouldn't you think auto manufactures would be listing the use of these snake oils in owner's manuals ?
This pretty much sums it up;
