ZZ4/L98 head compatibility
Just so I have a good understanding.... Heads with casting number 10088113 have a wide range of compatibility with older SBC engines.
So... It should fit a LG4, L69 and obviously other SBC 350 crate engines.... Right?
If one can be purchased to replace 305 heads, then it can also be a good "head" start -no pun intended
towards a future 350.
Thoughts?
Chuck

Yes, nice little head that works on many combos. I like to see them ported with a better valve before they are put on.

EGR for smog is not necessary, but good to know.
Another issue I noticed is that the ZZ4 head has an angled plug configuration, will that jive with Hooker 2055 headers without a hitch?
Is there a drawback to the angled spark plug config?

Re: ZZ4/L98 head compatibility
Corvettes also used a 128 aluminum head in 86-87 maybe those weren't angle plug heads?

Re: ZZ4/L98 head compatibility
So the D port heads could be an issue? Is the another header option that would suffice? There got to be a good match somewhere...
Angled plugs could be an issue too, eh?

Re: ZZ4/L98 head compatibility
I have used the heads with SLP headers and hooker 1 3/4 longtubes with no problems. The D port fits just fine. I have found the angle plugs work better than straight plugs. There are some people that have had issues with them tho..
I had a set of old 87 heads and they were angle plug with no D exhaust port.

Question about your set up....
Is it bolted to a 305?
Are you running stock headers?
What kind of issues if any... are you running into with the angled plugs?

Re: ZZ4/L98 head compatibility
Compression wise 113's have 58cc chambers which your 305 probably has so that wont affect anything, unlike 87 and later iron l98 heads which have straight up center intake manifold bolts the 113's are angled like your earlier 305.
Spark plug wise you will need to use plugs for whatever vette the heads came from because they are of the long threaded electrode type and the ones for a iron head won't reach into the chamber right.
I couldn't tell you if they will work on a 305 mine is a 90 vette 350. Just have to take 305 head gaskets and match them to the heads is all and see if they will seal everything.
