Re: What kind of valve covers are you gusy using on centerbolt heads?

I run Transdapt polished tall valve covers. They're just like the ones pictured by Johnny Blaze but without the ball milling. It was a toss up for me whether to go with any kind of design on the covers. I decided the smooth polished surface works for me. I did have to trim the Crane Gold Race rockers on my intake valves(Twisted Wedge heads) to clear the covers. They work well with my vacuum evacuation suction fittings. No more excessive oil getting picked up.

I was worried about the Transdapt brand. They generally make the cheapest chromed tin junk. However, these covers are pretty nice. I did have to trim a little off of the inside webbing to clear my heads' valve train geometry and I don't use much RTV so I had to use big paper clips to hold the gaskets in place on the covers during install. It worked out great and no leaks. They really seem to compliment the look of my underhood.

I'm using cork gaskets. Don't know if I have any leaks yet. Tried to fire the car yesterday and the negative battery cable started smoking and the header and brake line started to weld together. Going to redo my ground cables and see what happens.

Yikes! Good look with that. Better check that brake line to see if it's been burnt through.

you ccan always get them in plain black and make them yourself or have a good painter do it for you, iv seen a 79 TA at a car show with a big block that had the firechicken logo on the valve covers, he had them custom painted with high temp paint and they looked freaking awsome

Quick tip for sealing cork valve cover gaskets, use black rtv to stick them to the covers, then apply a very thin coat of grease to the head side. Make sure the rail on the head is clean.Tighten just enough to compress the gasket. You wouldn't think it would work, but I've been doing this for decades without a problem. The grease lets you remove the valve cover and gasket as a unit and you can re-use the gasket several times.
I use the thick steel reinforced cork gaskets instead of the rubber ones to prevent the gaskets from sucking into the valve train under high vacuum situations.

I just bought the black proforms like jas2730 has. I'll post pics next week when I get them on. Gotta pick a breather I like and a filler cap.
