Help With Mounting Tranny Onto Engine?
I pulled my engine for an engine swap (cracked blocked, I had the right engine all along, blah blah blah) anyways, we had to end up pulling the tranny out and bolting it onto the engine to drop them in as one unit. However, the tranny won't slide all the way up onto the engine. Its about am inch too far back. In an attempt to get it slid up we tried screws with spacers and whatnot. This worked for a while but I ended up breaking part of my bell housing off. I haven't been able to drive for a week and a half, I'm getting frustrated with it, what do y'all have to help me with this?

Auto or manual?
Sounds like your Torque converter isnt all the way in or your disc isnt lined up

Auto. TH-350 if that matters. I'm gonna say it's not the torque converter. Because that looks fine.

As you you know the TQ converter need to be set in past the trans mounting flange quite a ways.
Is the center nose on the TQ converter to big for the crank opening?

Alright... Dumb it down for me? By the way I don't know if it was clear or not but- I didn't take the torque converter off the engine. I'm trying to put it in the exact way it was in my car before. All I did was take the engine out of my car.

Yes. I pulled the engine out after only unbolting it from the tranny
That's all the unbolting that was done.

Re: Help With Mounting Tranny Onto Engine?
Well there is the problem. You may want to replace the trans front pump seal. I hope that there is no damage to the front pump.
Unbolt the 3 bolts holding the TQ converter to the flex plate and the put the converter in the trans. make sure its fully seated by spining the converter and pushing gently. (the bolt lugs on the converter will be deeper than the trans mounting flange)
when the motor and trans are bolted together the converter should spin freely until you bolt it to the flexplate.
Prolly a you tube vid about this.

Re: Help With Mounting Tranny Onto Engine?
That would be a no-no

When the trans is fitted to the engine if the convertor is correctly seated in the trans there should be a small gap (1/16" - 1/8" ) between the pads on the convertor and the flexplate where the bolts
go through requiring the convertor to come forward to bolt up to the flexplate.
If you don't have the gap or the convertor is jammed tight it is not seated correctly in the trans , so start again
Quite possible seeing he broke the bellhousing trying to jam it together

Re: Help With Mounting Tranny Onto Engine?
Thinking back to old times where I had my former V6's transmission off the car...
I don't think it will be possible to get the transmission back onto the TQ convertor while it's still flanged to the flexplate.
Remove it while marking which mount spot went onto which hole on the flexplate, replace the lip seal on the transmission side where the converter slides in while you're at it and save the trouble of doing it another time, because you WILL have to do it.
When the convertor is back on the transmission, lift the transmission up an bring it near the engine and now the trick:
The engine will be slightly tilted, meaning you won't be able to attach the transmission in its horizontal position.
Begin with the upper bolts of the housing, make sure they go into their threads straight, screw them in with your hands a bit, then angle the transmission slightly to get it closer to the block. Then the other bolts, then the flexplate bolts: done.
