Code 34.
Does anyone have the pinpoint test for code 34 MAF low? I've had a problem with my car stalling when I start it up and finally got it to throw a code when it did. A wiring diagram for the MAF will be helpful too. Thanks.

Re: Code 34.
Are you sure its not a Map sensor on an 89? I have had issues with my maf setting a code 34. I replaced the maf and pigtail fuel pump relay and maf relay and relay pigtails. I rebuilt the engine and it was still there, double checked for vac leaks, never found any, replaced the throttle body since it seemed worn around the shaft, still code 34. ended up buying a chip burner and some chips and programmed the threshold higher for the dtc to set and it never came back. I think if you modify anything for more airflow it will set this DTC when cruising at light throttle due to being at the threshold of gms/sec vs engine speed or something like that.

Re: Code 34.
Never seen a MAP on an 89 before. 90, 91, and 92's had MAPS. 89 was the last year for the MAF. Everything is still stock on my engine. Havent modified anything. I know some will remove the screens from the MAF but mine hasnt been removed. My car will only stall when you start it up. It might take a few seconds or a few minutes. It doesnt stall everytime either. Most of the time I can start it and it will run just fine with no stalling. I drove it to work today and when I got some free time, I hooked up my scanner to check codes and I got code 34. When I started it this morning, it started and stalled a few times and thats when the check engine light came on. After I started it again and it stayed running, the check engine light stayed out and never came back on. Only code was a 34. I happened to be looking at the data stream on my scanner when I started it at work and it did stall 1 time. MAF gms/sec data didnt drop off like it went dead. It stayed steady when it stalled and then started to drop since the engine wasnt running. I would of liked to see the data when the check engine light came on but it didnt when it stalled at work. This is the first time the check engine light came on. My car has had this problem for a while and I was happy that the check engine light finally came on. Gives me something to chase after for this problem.

I found this link if it helps at all.

Ill take your word that the car has a MAF and not a MAP, they probably had to use up some old parts for 89 when they were making the cars.
Also i think certain airfilters like k and n if you use oil it will get on the maf and if you dont oil them they dont collect small particles of dust and the maf gets dirty anyway. I finally bought an aftermarket ecu and its speed density so ill be gettin rid of it.
