how did u change your motor mounts
I pulled my motor and I was about to change the motor mounts but to get to the upper 2 bolts look like I will have to drop the A arm and go threw where the springs go. V8 location.

15mm socket on a wobble joint wrapped with electrical tape on an extension on a ratchet while holding the bolt with a combo wrench, accompanied by a lot of colorful words. Going back together, I glued the washer to the nut while guiding it back into place with the above apparatus.
Pulling the springs and A-arms without the engine weight will produce a lot more colorful word.

I pulled the a-arms and springs........ was not a fun process trust me....... If there is a way around it I wish I had known it at the time.

Re: how did u change your motor mounts
Pulling the a-arms is hands down the easiest way to change the mounts. After lowering the a-arms the removal and install of the mounts took about 10 minutes. I am running lowering springs, though. Never tried reinstalling stock springs...

Don't replace the whole mount, just get new inserts. Drill out the lower rivet, take out the single lower bolt which is easy as pie to get to, pry the clamshell open, remove the old insert, put the new one in, squeeze the clamshell back together with clamps, replace the lower bolt.

Re: how did u change your motor mounts
I change mine out to solid mounts (needed for my header clearance).
I did it with the motor lifted and with the a-arms intact.
I tied fishing line around the bolt to be able to pull it up and then put the nut on it.
I did both sides in less than 2 hrs.
Use wobble ends of different lengths

i did the wobble socket too but last time i did one was like 3 or 4 years ago. but one detail i did remember was instead of bolt facing down with nut on inside, it went alot easier installing bolt "up" and nut on top in engine bay. you can tape the bolt into the socket easier and spin the nut on much faster and easier and it doesnt get in the way of anything

Ok , So call me lazy , but there was NO way I was gonna take the darned front suspension apart for a motormount . When I realized what a PIA the job was shaping up to be I slipped under there with my stick welder , put a couple of tack welds on each nut/washer , and then had no problem at all taking the bolts out and replacing the mounts , cause the nuts and washers were right there held in by the tack welds . Just a couple of small areas on each , don't gotta weld all the way around each nut/washer , and the job was done easily .

Re: how did u change your motor mounts
I used an angled box wrench with electrical tape over the bottom to hold the nut in place. It sucked.

Re: how did u change your motor mounts
Well I did the ls1 brake swap so I had to take my spindle off anyway. With the sway bar link removed the A arm drop down enough so I can get to it. The spring stayed in, taking the spring out would have been hard to put back in but with out the motor and trans it would have been I don't want to think about it. For the washers I use rtv on some and assembly lube on others, rtv is better. It took about a hour I didn't use air tools.

Re: how did u change your motor mounts
I drropped both a-arms and had the mounts change in less than a hour. I'm glad I have air tools. Undo 5 screws and the a-arms are out on each side plus 3 more for the mounts.

Re: how did u change your motor mounts
My brother and I ended up doing this Friday night...took maybe an hour or so. Drivers side wasn't too bad, Passenger side we dropped the a-arm to get to the upper forward bolt but I have Hotchkis springs so getting them in and out was a breeze. Definitely worth the effort as the originals looked pretty sad!

Re: how did u change your motor mounts
when i did mine i used a torch to torch the old bolts off carefully , then i set down the new mounts and droped bolts in from the top to locate the mountes then i carefilly mig welded them to the xmember .
i did it in such a way that if i ever needed to change them i could grind the welds off and remove the mounts
