Help wierd oil leak!!

Hello all,

I have a really weird oil leak and I can't seem to find out why?? I started up my car reved it a bit and there is a MASSIVE pool of oil under the car. I added more oil to it started it to see where it was coming from.... Nothing let idle for a min or two still nothing I reved it a but and oil comes shooting out of this little threaded hole on the passanger side front of the engine. I looked in the Haynes manual and nothing I have posted some pics here in hopes that someone can help me find out why it is leaking oil and/or how to fix it. Its a 1985 Camaro Z28 305 TPI auto.

Thanks in advance for the help I have no clue on this one.

Find an extra bolt and install it in the hole tight, Not sure of the year of your block, but the old 350's where drilled into an oil passage there. Just stick a bolt in her and tighten up, your oil leak is fixed!

Thanks for the feed back it's the original block so far as I can tell. Any idea why it would just randomly start leaking from there? Also should I try to find a rubber washer of some sort (like for an oil pan drain plug) or get some hightemp silicone and put around there? I though about it but I didn't want to just do that in case it might be a more serious issue.

If anyone else has a sugestion please feel free to add I won't get a chance to get to it until later in the weekend. I'm glad someone could help me with this because I had no idea why it would be leaking from there.

Thanks

Re: Help wierd oil leak!!

You have NO IDEA how often I've posted about that leak...

It goes directly into the fuel pump drive rod passage.

Just put a SHORT bolt in there with a drop of sealer on the threads.

The hole has been there since 1955. It was originally for the motor mounts, which were on the front of the motor back then. Nowadays a smog pump bracket goes there. People who hack the AIR off of their cars frequently post about it.

Thanks! I bought it without the AIR a few years back and have been driving it without a problem. I don't know why it just started leaking now? Maybe it was this cold snap this winter (I live in MN)? But any way do you happen to have an idea of what size bolt would fit there? I can always hack off the end to length if you have a idea of how long it should be?

Thanks.

Re: Help wierd oil leak!!

I think its a 3/8 x 16 1/2 bolt. sometime they drill the holes to deep and aver time with the removal of the bolts, people tend to forget what length comes out and install one that is to long then add washers, this beats on the end of the hole and can make it leak. I have seen plenty of these do this. DOUBLE check me on the bolt size!
