Need help locating fuel filter on '84 firebird
I was hoping it would be in the engine bay but suspect it is under the car. My car never starts well from a cold engine and I have to baby it till its warmed up. Also on sharp curves I have stalled several times. Acceleration up hills is painful. I do not want to take it to a shop if I can do the job myself and gain learning experience. Have replaced the brakes and the tires (at a shop), now i feel that if i can change the fuel filter, update/ delete the catalytic and get the carb rebuilt ill have a faster and more reliable dirty bird. The engine is the 6 cyl 2.8.
Btw I have been viewing the board for a couple months but recently registered and this is my first post. I love the aerodynamics of the car and how it loves flying down hills. The white trash moniker of the firebird to me is nothing but industry driven snobbery belittling PO' folk who cannot afford a corvette. But with the lowly lies wisdom

Mine was after the hard feed line before the cfi system. if you follow the feed line from the engine bay towards the tank you should find it somewhere. Search autozone.com or another parts site to get an idea of what you are looking for.

While you have the air cleaner off, check for vacuum leaks, make sure the choke pull off diapham opens the choke alittle (test the w/ a vacuum pump)& make sure theres no vacuum to the egr at idle (makes it idle rough & start hard).

It was too much a bear to get off with regular wrenches, was beginning to strip, even a line wrench was beginning to strip it. Ended up using two vice grips did the trick. Very little fuel came out, and this was without either disconnecting the fuel pump fuse or the negative on the battery. The old filter was full of water and a red looking mud. The crappy fuel we're forced to buy these days...
Thanks everyone, next up for me will be changing the o2 sensor and rebuilding the carb (a friend is gonna help me remove and reassemble)
ps ex x fire, I did find one vacuum leak about a week ago - solved with a twig. Same goes for the truck.
