Fluid leak on front of engine
Ive recently built a 383 vortec and put it in my 86 berlinetta its been running fine with no leaks except a small power steering leak. It is the old power steering pump. Today I noticed all of my pulleys on the backside and the tie rods were covered in a coat of brownish oil it is also covering the bottom of my engine and the timing chain cover. The problem is i cant tell where this leak is coming from if its my front main seal or the power steering pump is leaking from the back. My oil is at the full mark and power steering is low but i thought it should be red if it leaks?

Smell it, that should tell you. Power steering is hyrdraulic, oil is.. well oil. If your oil is full, it's not leaking oil. Sounds like time to get rid of the old PS pump. The way it sounds, thats the culprit.

Something isn't right someplace.

Not sure if I can be too much help on the rings, my grandfather worked for GM for about 18 years, and told me on a new car don't hold a constant speed, fluctuate it for the first 2-3000 miles. So I've basically done that. Not sure if that helps, like I said this was awhile back
