I want to put a short ram air intake on my GTA

I have a 1988 GTA with a functional ram air hood. I've been looking around at air intakes for it, and really want to put a short ram intake on it like you see in this picture: http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a2...Picture025.jpg
Is this a good idea, and if I do it, what do I do about the MAF?

if you have a functional ram air hood i assume its the one sold by hawksthirdgenparts.com, which is the only functional thirdgen hood i know of. hawks markets a filter housing kit that matches up to the hood, which incorporates the MAF in the intake tube, all in all a much better setup since the filter isnt sucking air from under the hood. to use a cone filter with MAF you'd have to build some sort of CAI setup and that filter wouldnt work since its oval-shaped to fit the TB on later speed-density cars that dont use a MAF

no problem just make sure your hood really is the hawks part before dropping the $210 for the ram kit... i've seen non-functional hoods cut out to make them "functional" but the hawks kit wont fit. whether you build a CAI or have the hawks hood and add the ram air kit either is a better option than an open element

It is. Turns out I do have the intake box that comes with it. The guy who I bought the car from gave it to me (nice guy). I just need to figure out how to fit it to the intake manifold...

Ill probably do that. They could probably steer me in the right direction of tubing for the intake.

the intake that i see in that pic is nothing more than an air filter attached to the throttle body- it is kind of the exact opposite of what a "ram air" intake is..
