Random Starter/Ignition problem
It seems as if my car will not turn over, at random....
1989 Firebird Formula, TPI
It has happened when the car is cold, warm, sitting for a long time or just recently driven.
I hear a *click* (as usual) when i put the key in the ON position, then when i turn to crank, nothing happens.
I try again a half hour later, and it works just fine.
Note: This problem has been happening for YEARS, and yes, i have tried replacing the starter

Re: Random Starter/Ignition problem
Mine just started doing this. Changed the starter no difference.
I hear the click every time. Sometimes it starts first time, some second time, sometimes after 5 clicks.

Re: Random Starter/Ignition problem
After reading what others were saying I took the cables off again (had already done this). No rust, no corrosion, everything tight.
Sand papered the ends and the battery terminals (side posts). No problem now. Go figure.

That gremlin is back today. Ig switch is a good idea. Rarely change those so it didn't come to mind.

Re: Random Starter/Ignition problem
changed ignition starter switch and found that the key switch doesn't seem to move the rod to the switch as it should.
Have any of you seen this to wear out?
