oil pan

just rebuilt 350 in an 87 z28. it fires up and idles good. no knock or clattering. rev it a little, blows the oil filter seal. three filters later. i figure i need the fix the pressure regulator in the oil pump. somone please tell me i can remove the oil pan with out pulling the whole engine. any input would be great.

Re: oil pan

Well I dont have my stock engine in it anymore, but I did recently change my oil pump by unbolting motor mounts, Trans mount, and headers then just lifted the motor just enough to get it past the flywheel. Had to also take the cap of off the dizzy to give it more room at the firewall. I have a carb'ed motor though so it might be different with a tpi. You have a high pressure pump?

Re: oil pan

Yes its possible to get the pan out without pulling the motor, but its a huge pita. Need to undo the motor mounts, trans mount, take off the dist cap, and get the motor as high as possible (I had the bell touching the firewall to get enough space). You also have to rotate the crank to a certain position so that the counter weights don't get in the way. Better off pulling the motor imo.

Re: oil pan

Make sure your oil filter adapter isnt broken. I had one that randomly broke and would dump all the oil out if it was reved cold but was fine under normal diving.
Also double check to make sure you don't have 2 oil filter gaskets on there. (Old filter gasket stuck to the block, it happens more than I thought)
