Looking to do my lines from the rail to the hard line in braided. My question is what brand have you used? Looking at Aeroquip, Russel, Earl's, Summit and JIC 37* generic fittings/line.

 

I've used a mixture of different fittings and brands. I've used most. Main thing is to pay attention to colors and fitting shapes. If you're a perfectionist they are usually different.

Plan is to make up two lines with all the same manufacturer fittings/line. I don't plan of mixing. The issue is that they range in price. The JIC is the cheapest, followed by Summit then Aeroquip. Russel and Earl's are basically on par. Are Aeroquip fittings and line good, or do you get what you pay for?

 

I have also ran Aeroquip, Russel, Summit and an unknown brand and to me they all look and act the same. Maybe the actual braided line is different in the number of strands per inch or composition of the rubber but I would say for our purposes you can get whatever is on sale at the time. I have all of my brands of fittings mixed together, no difference in color or appearance.

 

Bringing this one back. I am about to put together my lines and want to know. Is there an issue with mixing brands between line and fittings? I plan to use Aeroquip PTFE line, but limited to fitting angles.

 

You shouldn't have any issue as long as your fittings are for the hose type you plan on running.

There was an article in Car Craft or Hot Rod few months back, maybe last year comparing fittings showing color differences and slight design differences.

The magazine covered the red and blue ones which some brands mix colors on their fittings.

I mixed Jegs, Summit, Russels, Earls, and Aeroquip fittings with my Aeroquip braided lines. You can tell a difference with side by side comparison, but unless you actually get close enough to look you might only tell the color hues are different.

The only reason why I used Aeroquip lines was a bundle deal at the time. Buy so much feet of lines get free aluminum vice jaws, which I gave some away to my friends since I ended up with several pairs.

 

The only "issue" that comes to mind might be if the thickness of the hoses varies from manufacturer to manufacturer. That could result in leaking, if either the fitting could not be properly installed on a thicker hose or a smaller hose not getting a proper seal.

I recommend calling the manufacturer's and asking their Tech Dept. people.

Of course, they will recommend their own parts. However, if you approach it from being a car owner who just bought a car with some "mixed" components, you'll come closer to getting a "straight answer".

I believe that Aeroquip is the oldest of the manufacturers you mentioned, with Russell and Earl's coming along afterward. The rest of them are more recent to the market.

Thanks for the replies. My issue is I bought everything that I needed and now am finding that the angle for my feed line is not the way I would like it. The angle I need does not exist for PTFE lined hose from Aeroquip. So if I can get away with using a Russell or Earl's fitting than that is what I will do.

 

Sounds like you might just have to "go for it" and stand by with a fire extinguisher, just in case . . . Stay Safe !
