1983 z28 tbi c/f injection
1983 z28 tbi c/f injection
rebuild dist. set #1 cylinder at tdc and using a breaker bar set timing to 0 degrees. engine cranks and runs almost perfectly for about 10 seconds and dies. getting code 42, however I disconnected the est bypass which is probably why i'm getting code 42. can anyone help me diagnose my problem? is the ignition control module or electronic spark control module the problem? note: when I connect it to the battery charger and select 225 amp engine start the engine cranks and idles good. please help. hope I did not give too much info.

Timing should be set to 6 degrees, although it should still run. How is your fuel pressure? Why did you rebuild the distributor? What problems were you having with the car? Will the car stay running if you give it gas?
If you put a battery charger on it the car will run fine? How is your alternator?

Sorry I hit you with so many questions - just trying to get an idea why you are having issues with it. Code 42 is definitely from the bypass.
