Is the tried & true 219 still the best 383 street cam?

Another project....ugh. But it is an IROC convertible and it has a good foundation..

It has a 383 4 bolt with D Port heads, SuperRam intake, 58MM TB, Longtube headers. Previous owner let it get too hot.....scored the cylinder walls or at the minimum ****ed up the rings and the engine has to come out for repair. It has a Crane Powermax 2032, seemed kinda smallish to me, so I figured I'd do a cam swap while the engine's out . I know back in the day, the 219 was the standard for which all other cams were compared (with the SR intake). Is it still the standard or are there better ones out now that will hold good vacuum and remain completely streetable? I do know that with current setup and the 219, it "should" make 440 crank HP and a torque curve basically as flat as the Illinois prairies from 2200-6000 @ 480 crank TQ.

Thanks for reading.

Since nothing's changed about the SuperRam in A LONG time, it's probably still as good as anything.

That reply helped me....um....zero. I know the SR hasn't changed but cam profiles have, and I'm asking about cams, not intakes. I would explain further, but I'm sure everyone understands my question EXCEPT you. Please stop trolling my thread, I'm seeking advice, not clowns.

There are faster lobes available that will outpower that grind and make better vacuum but it will be harder on valvetrain than that cam. Its a tradeoff. Comps xfi lobes will do it, xfi268 or a custom xfi276 from their catalog. Or a custom grinder can set you up with something as well.

Need abit better valvesprings to make it last and control the lobes at higher rpm.

But the 219 works well, thats a given

Thank you. That's the information the information that I was looking for. I will check out the xfi series and the specs on them. If the HP/TQ difference are minimal, I think I'm OK going with the 219. This ones more for me and the wife to enjoy (not sweating over a few HP), however the serious tire turner in the garage is off limits to her.

No real need to explain further. You already know everything. Enjoy.

Don't really appreciate
Don't really appreciate you being a twerp either, when I offered help... the message is, DON'T REINVENT THE WHEEL. There's no cheeeeeze at the end of the maze. Run what you already know WORKS, and move on. And meanwhile, quit being a trouser snake about it.

Depends on the heads and how ported the intake is, but with similar .050" duration numbers and marginal lift difference, hp difference wont be to far apart at peak. Midrange and low end will favor the more aggressive lobes, but the main difference is idle and vacuum and generally driveability. Xfi is faster off the seat so will have less total overlap and develop more vacuum. Lpe 219 will still drive goood and make plenty of vacuum. If you found one for cheap use it. If you wanted a bit more performance, xfi or maybe the lunati voodoo series with similar .050 numbers or slightly larger
