Why no work?
I bought an 86 Trans Am that was barely running because it was cheap. Not my best idea. The guy said it needed a new carburetor because it wouldn't idle. Long story short the carb is good now and it appears like I have a huge vacuum leak coming from the intake manifold. It still wont idle and pops out of the carburetor throat. I get a fireball sometimes. I have replaced the intake manifold gaskets twice and the vacuum reading is still about 12 mm. The intake manifold is the edelbrock performer 3701 with the EGR valve. I am not sure how good the condition is of the connection spots on the manifold, the parts that go on the gaskets. They seem decent but I don't know how flat they are. I have done the test with starter fluid spraying at the base of the manifold and I am pretty sure the leak is coming from there. Should I try to get my hands on another manifold and test that out? I want to test other things but I realize that I need to solve the vacuum leak first. I would really appreciate some help I have been going at it for some time now.
