hi all, first off you prob remember my situation with my 1989 trans am gta convertible 5.7 tpi, have no injector pulse, i have good distributor ref signal, good power and grounds, all injectors read 16 ohms, new icm,dist,pick up coil, will start on starter fluid, but no injector pulse, so that lead me to think it must be vats, however the car is cranking over and the security light is coming on and going out as it should, so i took the ecm to get it looked at, as i was going to get the number off the vats chip, to let tunedperformance delete the vats out just to be sure, anyway i got a phonecall from the ecm tester, he said both of the injector drivers are overloaded, i dont mind paying to get that done, but i dont want to get it done and then it overloads the injector drivers again, so my question to you all is, what can cause the injector drivers to overload, could ground straps or earths do it any help would be much appreciated thanks

 

There is just one injector driver, the only time I have ever seen the driver shut down is with
Sorted injectors. I'm not sure how he tested it but with vats enabled in the programing on the 1227165 ecm it needs a 30hz signal at 50-60 % to pin B6 of the ecm. You might want to call and get a explanation how it was tested or what he feels the repair should be.

I really don't know how someone who works on different ecms tests them. But I do know if that ecm isn't receiving a 30hz signal with the vats enabled it will never pulse the injectors.
I built a test bench that I simulate a rpm signal to pulse led lights and a resister to simulate injectors but I can't do anything with vats enabled unless I would buy or make a frequency modulator.

the company im using are called autotek, and have give me a quote to repair the ecm/injector driver, for £250 uk money, like i said i dont mind paying but dont want them to do it and then something overloads the driver again, if that is the problem, still i have to start somewhere i spose,

 

Rockauto.com ships international might be alot cheaper than having the ecm repaired.
If all the injectors are at 16 ohms start looking at the light blue and light green wires for beling shorted to ground as well as the ground behind the passenger cylinder head.
Did you ever have any code 53 from the ecm ?

thanks for that tp, to cut a long story short the bloke i bought this car off has tried to get it going himself, and behind the pass side head, by the distributor there is a mess of wires he has messed around with, i think i have got most of them all where thay should be, but there is still a few hanging around, i have pics i can send to you tp, especially a black box with the same color wires as the injector clips green and black, that looks abit burned, can you pm me your email address and i can send you a pic of it and see what you think its for
