balancer install help needed. Is it on far enough?

Is this balancer on far enough or should there not be any gap like this? I rented the installer from advanced and got it far enough to where you couldn't turn the installer nut any farther. I asked my dad for help so he held the installer to keep it from turning. My wrench to turn the nut is about 16 inches so there's no shortage of leverage. It just won't go any farther.

I have a similar style balancer and that is about where mine bottomed out.
I thought it wasn't on all the way and took it off and reinstalled and it still bottomed in the same spot.
