305 TPI, garage find, runs but low power
I am going to check all the basics when I get the car home but the 305 sat for years. I had a mechanic go through the car just to gether running.
Swapped tranny
adjustred nad replaced TV cable
new fuel tank
new fuel pump
flushed lines
checked,flushed brakes
oil change
fuel filter change
so she starts right up idles but sounds rich. It does not miss at all no knock or even valetrain noise, no smoke at all even revving engine
but first test drive at WOT it just puttered no power but again no symptoms or bad sounds or smoke just low on power n boggy
The mechanic said she blew smoke for long time after first start up and she just needs ot be run to clear things up. All injectors he says are firing.
I know I will get her home and do vac test, iac, tps tune and use moates to scan
Oh he said he scanned and had no error but I do not believe that.
One thing that I do know is the dash and blinkers all do not work, there is power as the oil and rpm gauges move a little and brakes lights and fan work but whole gauge seems shot
Wonder if by default she is stuck in limp mode.
Just some thoughts from others that had TPI sit. I know I am just getting started. I like to add a APFR and gauge to be sure. I have Moates already but never used it.

You may be lucky and all it needs is a good thrash to clean it out ; there may also be a valid reason why it was parked up for years

It would smell rich , not sound rich

Well of course. First thing we checked was fluids and signs for cracked block heads valetrain issues. It fired right up. Mechanics all agreed motor is fine oil pressure solid and after fluid flush all look clean and run well.
No smoke or knocks at all engine fires up idles a d runs
It runs rich it feels like and timing is severely pulled out out but doesnt feel like engine is bad
I will do free tune abd body is worth saving for aure clean no dents t all straight and all original. If engine is really bad i will still tune it out as much as i can abd build a 355 to swap out while i fix interior and paint

If it was in 'limp home mode' the SES light would be on.
check the timing and sound like your mechanic did a decent job although not a complete one.
Did he inspect / replace the Dist. Cap, Rotor, & spark plugs?
After sitting for a long time in an un-conditioned garage condensation can take it's toll on the cap & rotor terminals.. same with spark plugs.

The Dash lights are not powered up. I think the speedo is fryed. I ordered a new one. So no SES lights or speed or RPM or indicators
Yes he is good mechanic. He didnt want to run the bill up. He fixed as much as we felt to get it running. The rest we can dd or he would leave for me to inspect.
Since it is running and seems like more of electrical-ignition issue with some wrench time simple tune up parts and he can check dash and small things. I figure have him do it there so I can drive it home in a more normal state.
All the major tune up stuff and diagnostics then I can do from home.
New plugs wires cap rotor, clean IAC adjust TPS check vacuum check maf, pull codes, make sure fan is running good will be my next step

I would look real close at the wiring/harness. Mice suck. Look for droppings inside.
