Air Cleaner question
OK, so here's the deal....

The chrome one is what I have on my car. I've been considering changing to the one pictured on the right. Is it just a simple swap? There anything else I need to get? Besides the other piece to the big hose and the top which I do have. Where does the little hose attached to the bottom of the black one get connected?

Is this little nub in the back where the hose would get attached?

Re: Air Cleaner question
I don't think that'll fit...
Look at the underside of it, and how the area around the edge out toward the filter, is lower than the carb flange; then look at the choke stat.
Just one more good reason for NOT putting that kind of carb on a car. (in addition to the death trap rubber fuel line section for example)

It sorta fits. I may think about replacing the carb tho. The carb was there when I bought the car. Buddy of mine said I should dump the Edlebrock and go with a Holly carb. I'm hoping to get the engine bay back as close to stock as I can...maybe upgraded a bit.

Re: Air Cleaner question
have you tried putting the air cleaner on the carb yet? it's not hard- just a wing nut... it probably won't clear the choke housing on your Edelbrock/Carter carb, but it can't hurt to try, right?
the big hole in the bottom of the intake snorkel connects to a hose that gets hot air from the exhaust manifold for cold weather driveability and emissions... the vacuum hose that controls the valve in the snorkel that controls the door that lets in that hot air hooks up to a port at the base of the rear of a stock quadrajet that has full manifold vacuum... if you don't drive the car in subzero temps, just leave that stuff unhooked and don't worry about it.

Re: Air Cleaner question
The car won't pass CA inspection with that carb on there, either. It'd be good to get the stock one back on in time to have that ready before that inevitable need rolls around again.
You'll have to have those other tubes and things present and hooked up, just like you'll need a computer-controlled carb, to pass.

Re: Air Cleaner question
Thankfully I don't have to worry about that since my car is registered in IL and thanks to being in the military I was also allowed to keep my IL license which has the same address on it. But eventually I want to get it back to that. The guy who owned it before me ripped out the computer and all kinds of things that I need to figure out and replace.
