Fuel line repair

When I bought my car I found out that the previous owner cut the hatch floor to gain access to the fuel pump. All the lines had also been cut. The feed and return had been joined using rubber hose and clamps. Not sure if the hose is fuel injection hose or not.

If I use proper EFI rubber hose and good EFI clamps will this keep working in the long run? Everyone in town wants $300 for a sending unit so I thought I would try this.

Well, it will work. For how long is another question and if it ruptures, since your floor has been cut, you will end up with an interior full of gasoline which is a bad situation. I'd see if I could find some replacement lines from a donor car somewhere and fix it right.

What years/engine cars can I get a unit out of? Does it have to come from a V8 TPI car? What about a EFI V6 or TBI?

TPI or TBI shouldn't matter. They just need to match in size and what you need. I have no idea what cars had what in what years though. I'd try to find one similar to what you have though.

Re: Fuel line repair

Any fuel injected thirdgen 85-92 uses the same fuel sending unit but the pump in tpi is higher pressure. iron duke, 2.8l, 3.1, tbi and tpi all the same senders.

There are only a few fuel injected thirdgen cars out in the junk yard here. I'm out there lots and just know it would be a long disaster trying to get a sending unit out of one of them.

I think I will just bite the expensive bullet and buy a new one. Auto parts store can have one for me tomorrow after lunch. It is that or splice the cut lines with EFI hose. But I certainly don't want to worry about the lines or ever have to drop the tank for the rest of the time I own the car.

Re: Fuel line repair

LOL ! the previous Owner severed those lines with his jigsaw when cutting his "access panel" pretty obvious.

you can jury rig with compression unions, or fix it the right way.
