A/C delete w/o pully and belt

I want to take out the a/c on my 85 305TBI. Can i just take it out and cut off the a/c belt? Can i just take out all the a/c hose and plug any holes?

Have you done it that way before? Why do others use the delete pulley?

Re: A/C delete w/o pully and belt

because they have a serpentine setup that has a tensioner right next to the AC and because of the geometry (the way the tensioner sits over the belt) it needs a pulley in the AC spot. Yours has v belts and a flat belt for the alt. You can just take the AC one off.

Re: A/C delete w/o pully and belt

Since there's no such thing as a "85 305TBI", let's not jump to any hasty conclusions just yet.

If the OP can tell us what s/he REALLY has, it would help us be accurate.

Re: A/C delete w/o pully and belt

The year is 1985, the engine size is a 305 and its carburated. I thought if it wasnt TPI it was TBI. So now that you kno what engine it is. Can you help me out? Would i be able to just take out the compressor and cut the belt off?

No, mine is carburated but the ac is on the right like in the pic. And theres only one belt going around the compressor.

Re: A/C delete w/o pully and belt

So it's the same, drive system is for all accessories,..ignore the injection. So, in this case you can remove the belt.

What should i do with the hoses coming out of it? One goes to the radiator and one goes to the silver thing in the upper left corner.

Re: A/C delete w/o pully and belt

Are you looking to free up room in the engine bay? If thats the case, you will have to unbolt the compressor, the lines, remove the condenser, etc. If you just dont want it dragging on the engine, cut the belt and be done with it.

What a shame...

Another potentially "nice" car heads down the unfortunate path of turning into a pile of ... something .... less ........ sought after, for no good reason.

Why would it be "something less" if it doesnt have air conditioning? I think it would still be a nice car.

Re: A/C delete w/o pully and belt

Yup; go ahead and think that.

Personally I don't find a car infested with road filth (from the windows being CONSTANTLY rolled down, bring in all that dust and crap) and BO to be very "nice". I sure won't buy one like that. Females sure don't find it "nice". Since I DO like to have female passengers once in a while, I allow myself to be influenced by their opinions in such matters to at least some minimal extent. But that's just me; long experience has taught me this the hard way.

Someday you'll probably feel the same way about it.

Opinions aside, to do this you would have to remove the compressor and anything connected to it. Just follow the lines and youll see what all has to come out.
