11 seconds?
What combination do I need to make my 84 z28 (350 sbc, t350, 3.73) to make this car run low 12s or high 11s? My budget is around $3000

Currentlly has an edlebrock 600 cfm man. Choke, 2 bolt main, t350 swap with a shift kit and the whole interior has been ripped out

Re: 11 seconds?
What heads, cam, compression are the important items. Is it a roller block or just any 2 bolt main block from 1956 to 1985?
Do you have proper tires on the back that can handle enough traction for an 11 second pass?
Get a decent cam, roller conversion if necessary. Then spend money on GOOD heads. After start saving for a good rear end because pushing a 10 bolt into the 11s is not the best of ideas.

Re: 11 seconds?
Don't forget you'll need an Exhaust system, so a good set of headers and 3" catback at a minimum. Anyway, to get into the 11's your looking at 400-500hp at the wheels so you will be neeting a 500hp motor. 12's might be more realistic as a good 400hp motor should get you there.

Re: 11 seconds?
My 3500lb street car has been 11.90@114 with a not so special setup. 385 ci flat tappet, with Dart iron eagle heads. The heads are decent, but nothing exceptional. You don't need to stroke it, but if the crank is junk, a new crank is the same price stroked or not. The key is to match the setup as a whole. That means intake, cam, converter, and gear. With those gears, get a nice dual plane intake (read: edelbrock performer rpm), 3000-3500 converter, and a cam specced to match. Shift it at or below 6000, and let it eat. Don't forget tires.

Re: 11 seconds?
Strokers are torque monsters and they will let you know what your weakest link is in your drive line if your race them consistently
Our 388 had a smaller flat tappet cam, lower compression than our 355 motor (solid roller) and both motors ran nearly identical 1/4 mile times. The biggest difference was the 388 had 1.45-1.44 60 foot times and the 355 had 1.53-1.55 60 foot times.

Vortec heads, bigggg cam, ported dual plane or vic jr, 750 carb, 4000 stall, loads of gear, lighten it down abit, slicks/skinnies and you have a shot at it in good air. May exceed your 3k budget but thats as cheap as you can do it all motor

Re: 11 seconds?
Is it necessary to punch the motor out to a stroker or can the 350 achieve my goal

EDIT: Also, my car is a 355 with a 236/242 .520/.540 lift camshaft with stock vortec heads, just springs changed to accept .550" lift. Around 10.5:1 compression.

Re: 11 seconds?
Basically my build. 3500 stall though and a 4.11 gear. Car runs 11.71 at 115 mph. Also, i'm hoping its not done there. I would like to think either by the end of this year, or next it will be 11.50's. The whole car itself, including paint and moser 9" rear and everything through my car also including the original price of the car itself is not over 9,000. And the car has been a consistent bracket car for 3 years now since I bought, slowly getting quicker. This year I finished 3rd in the Points and went to the Summit Division 3 bracket finals. So I am a little biased, lol, but I would agree with orr on vortec heads being able to make good horsepower cheaply.
