just realized my distributor is a procomp...
...and its too late to run away. I've been troubleshooting some ignition issues and I came to the realization that my distributor is Chinese junk. Its been that way for awhile considering this was on the car when I got it years ago.
Considering I used my spare HEI stocker, I'm going to have to build a distributor. My PC POS is nice looking; I'll give it that. Before I strip it for parts and put it in the scrap metal bin to be melted down, I was wondering if anyone here has had any luck rebuilding one of these like a stocker, replace the gear, shim it, delco module, MSD pickup?

In the housing? Nothing I can find. Its all in the components and assembly. I shimmed it since it had too much play. The cap and rotor were garbage. The ignition module had issues. I ended up using just the housing to 'upgrade' and replaced all the other components and so far its all good.

You're lucky... some of those chinesium knock-offs, stock parts won't even fit em. IOW, if it breaks, it's garbage.
I guess we all gotta learn the lesson the hard way sometimes, eh? Won't happen again, will it? Once is all it takes, to realize that you get, AT BEST, what you pay for, and usually, not quite even that; so if you pay the LEAST, you get, .... uuhhhhhmmmmmm, ... ,,,, ...... I'll let you do the rest of the math. Too bad your car's PO hadn't learned that lesson yet.

Nah. I prefer just rebuilding the stocker. never had an issue I couldn't fix with those. I don't trust the Chinese made junk.

I like the Chinese stuff. Cheap, non-union, if it breaks you throw it out and buy another.

Exactly. I had a random miss at idle. was a little weak up top (for a tpi). It was the cheap pickup coil. Runs much better with name brand parts.
