Head selection
I have a 355ci with a new stock spec crank and upgraded pistons. The pistons are flat tops with the valve reliefs. I have a howards cam 114lsa with 118/224 duration and a HSR with 30# injectors. The transmission is a 700r4 built with an EDGE torque converter (3000rpm stall).
SO, the question is, what heads? my budget is under 1200 more around 1000.
EST HP/TQ?

AFRs are right around 1200 and you really can't go wrong with them.

Re: Head selection
Where are you getting afr's for 1200?
Dart shp is closer to 1000$. The 180's are decent heads

Re: Head selection
Yea, AFRs for 1200 are too good to be true. Used maybe. I think I'll go with the SHPs. I'd be looking for the 65cc 180s right?

Re: Head selection
Are Pro-filers good? I see I can get them for a grand too and they have better flow numbers than the SHPs.

Re: Head selection
No info given on the spring specs that i could find. May ask pro filer what the pressures are to be safe but sounds like they will work.

Re: Head selection
I called pro-filer and they said their spring seat pressure is 130#/350# with a max lift of .650.
You can get them assembled and shipped to your door for around $1100.
Re: Head selection
For anyone reading this, take this info to heart. The castings imported fall apart, where the spec of concentric of the valve guide being in-line with the valve opening spec is by far from right. So sealing does become a issue.

Maybe you could reword this and then show this with a picture or article where it happened?

Re: Head selection
I would talk to pro filer directly and if you see a problem with the heads talk to them about it and they should replace them. However i have not heard any issues with pro filer.
Pro comp however have heard some issues

Re: Head selection
I can read and understand it just fine. You are the one who was talking about profiler heads and then referred to them as being imported with contradicts yourself since they are made in the USA. Which is why we all wanted you to clarify what you said.
So I will ask again. Are the made in US profiler sbc heads having an issue with valve guide to valve alignment?
I also have sent a message to Chad Speier to see if he has seen this in profiler heads. You would be hard pressed to find someone who knows more about profiler heads or heads in general.

Re: Head selection
Really trying hard not to come off as a smart bass, but not hard pressed as you might think.
Everytime you want to compare a part that they are as good as another brand name like say AFR's,well surprise it is the AFR's you needed to buy in the first place.Nothing is for nothing in this business and take this advise to heart.....the "deals" just ant.

Re: Head selection
AFR as good as they are are not without issues. All manufacturers occassionaly run into issues. Historically with afr, i have seen/heard posted that there have been issues with valve cover seal, oil drain back holes, and sometime cnc tool cuts in the port that should have been blended. Afr just has a decent customer service so they handle those issues
That being said i like AFR. Great street heads, perfect for hyd roller cars
