Crank pully tighten or replace?

got a 85 sportscoupe. I noticed a lot of runout/ wobble on the crankpully a few months back. after having issues with charging system recently. I noticed some daylight between the 1st groove"closest to front" and middle groove on my 3 groove pully. has anyone seen these 3 groove pullys that are pieced? like [2 + 1 an get the 3 groove] I tightened up some of the bolts, an lost the daylight, still got a little wobble, but haven't drove it since.

Re: Crank pully tighten or replace?

runout is pretty common with GM pulleys-quality is quite variable-sometimes the grooves run true but the flange will appear to wobble, often the grooves wobble as well. The crank and water pump pulleys of my car had runout,so I went to the junkyard and gathered a bunch of pulleys-checking them until I found ones that were perfectDo check that your pully is tight and seated properly against the damper though.BTW had the same situation with the heater blower"squirrel cage"-variable quality of that molded plastic part too-checked several till a perfect one was found...

Re: Crank pully tighten or replace?

thanks for the replys. That's what I heard from a friend about the wobble.

But if its a 2pc assembly I could just tighten it down.. But if its tearing its self apart, 1pc. I need to remove. I the ones ive seen are the 1pc 3 groove. any one ever install a 2pc crank pully with 3 grooves on a stock oem SBC ? 2 groove pc, and a1 groove piece

All I've seen on 3rd gens were 1-piece.

But, I may not have seen them all.
