Looking to do the same. Wanna perk up the little V8. Not ready to do a swap yet; getting other things handled on the car before I dive into that (in a year or two). Hope you get some good responses.

Re: underdrive pulleys on a TBI 305

I did an underdrive crank pulley, didnt notice any gains out of it. For the money spent compared to power output, its better spent on lots of other things. I'm sure you can do a search and find lots of info, but when I did this (it was on a V6, but the same idea) it wasn't really worth it IMO. If you do get them, you will want to be careful, some say not to run more than just the crank pulley, you may slow down the alternator too much to keep a good charge if you have an amp wired up or slow the waterpump down too much to cool decently at low engine RPMs. Try a search, I know its been covered a lot.

Say , for instance , that your engine's maximum design RPM is 5000 .......

Now you come along , and with mad $$$$ and skills , and modify it to regularly turn 7000 RPM ......

You would need to "gear down" the accessories like the water pump and alternator so that when you hit those 7000 RPMs you don't cavitate the water pump or throw windings from the alternator's rotor with the excess RPM .

This is a fantastic mod I did it in the late nineties when I was playing with my old 305 TBI engine ....worked great battery would go dead after diving in the city for an hour or so...and the best part is that A/C became also became usless in town

GOOD STUFF !!!!
