Leaking coolant rear engine?

Been seeing light liquid almost water puddle out from unde car

It is not gas oil or tranny fluid

Unde the car it appears middle to rear of oil pan dripping down block and then also almost by rear seal and on tranny pan

Seems spread out but driver side if block and parts under neath all appear wet with water

I am thinking coolant it is not leaking a lot or overheating or smoking or bubbling and no watar in oil or oil in radiator

So is this head gasket? Minor leak or intake?

I am running lean at idle #2 looks lean and 6/8 are rich
Water neck on intake appears to be lacking a little too

Is this weeping after I shut off it seems can come from intake in rear?

I am thinking water neck and. Rear intake by 6-8 is weeping after I shut down?

Anyway to test or seal with rtv?

Cooling system pressure tester. You can get one from auto zone on their loan a tool deal. Just a deposit you get back when you return it. Hooks up in place if the radiator cap, pump it up and get under and look where it comes from. I hope it's not a freeze plug. They're never fun.

You can also buy a dye kit that reacts to a blacklight.

Car: Yes
Engine: Usually
Transmission: Sometimes
Axle/Gears: Behind me somewhere
Re: Leaking coolant rear engine?

First: identify the substance.

Second: locate the source.

Third: repair it properly.

No, spooging something with RTV that's fully assembled, is unlikely to ever be successful.

No, running lean isn't a factor.

No, almost certainly not a head gasket.

If in fact it's coolant, most likely sources are the heater hose fitting on the intake, the intake gasket, or one of the core plugs. In that order of likelihood.

Water outlet needs fixed regardless.

Re: Leaking coolant rear engine?

If it looks like a block heater gone bad, remove it, patch it up and go from there. Head gaskets tend to fail internally at the cylinders where the stresses are greatest. Check your oil. If it's not a brown milkshake your probably right that it's the block heater. Warm and running the coolant is pressurized not only by the pump but by the expansion of the coolant. It will tend to blow like a whale and of course when it blows it lowers the pressure which lowers the boiling point of the coolant which leads to overheating pretty rapidly. You may want to consider replacing your water pump if it ran without coolant.

Block heater = Freeze plug?

I am not seeing overheating but I think as you state a small leak after i shut the car off is expanding and leaking as it sits.

Re: Leaking coolant rear engine?

Your not alone jjcuff1 my 87 iroc has a slow drip from back of motor. I think its a freeze plug but not sure yet. Gonna pull tranny when it gets warm and inspect back of block.

Re: Leaking coolant rear engine?

IG im not the only one!! my freeze plug went out to. the one right by the motor mount. but now i get a chance to change my springs and get some poly motor mounts
A freeze plug pops out when the coolant freezes, its more of a safety feature so the block wont crack.

I did all the freeze plugs in my 94 GMC (4.3) and the plug behind the motor mount I used the rubber adjustable one the, rest were standard brass replacements
