Hello, it's your local and inexperienced youth here to annoy you with irritatingly simple questions. First off, the main thing here is I want to put a stock lt1 cam in my 305 lb9. At this point you may or may not be beginning to scowl (if so please explain why). I know that the lb9 uses pressed in rocker studs. Can these studs handle the extra load? I also believe the lb9 does use hyd. Roller lifters correct? It's not a huge cam, but from what I understand I'll need new vavle springs. However could too stiff a spring cause a rocker stud to fail? I don't wanna spend a lot on this, becuase later I'm building the 350 that so majestically lays in my garage floor. But could anyone reccomend some decent and cheap springs? Also, head gasket. I would like to bump the compression slightly. I also want some longevity. If my memory serves me correctly it's a .038 compressed gasket, any relatively cheap and thinner replacements? I know fel pro makes some .018 shims, but my dad said they wouldn't last. Also my friends tall tale telling boss told me of the danger of camming a 305 and valves and cylinder walls forming a physical relationship that causes total chaos (very Romeo and Juliet). He does own a 305 MC SS. Sometimes he knows what he's talking about. So I'm slightly concerned about clearance. Any berating, chastising, or advice would be infinitely appreciated. I earlier made a post in the tpi section and I received a large amount of invaluable advice/info. Y'all guys are awesome. My dad still knows a lot from when he raced in the 70's. But you guys are invaluable. (Yes I started a sentence with a preposition)

If its the 88 listed in your information yes its hyd roller. Lt1 cam will go in fine with proper springs on stock studs. Replace seals too. Your car being an auto may have the small peanut cam so the lt1 cam will give some better performance like the hotter 5 spd lb9's that got the 350 L98 cam.

Do something like a good single valvespring of near stock diameter. Comp 981's or such. Should be fine and swap in pretty easily

1. Pressed-in studs are OK for any valvespring the LT1 cam would need.
2. Here's some cheap springs that would do just fine: http://www.summitracing.com/parts/hrs-98214/overview/
3. You have to assure your deck surfaces are flat and spotless to do this, but going from the peanut LB9 cam (like Orr said, this is probably what you have), to the LT1 cam, you can afford to bump the CR and tighten up the quench, so I'd run a Felpro .015" shim gasket. BUT, like I said, YOU have to be comfortable with this! I've used them on good surfaces and haven't had any issues. At the least, find a .026"-.030" gasket.

IF we're assuming wrong and you already have the better LB9 cam in yours, then the LT1 cam would be wasted effort.

Also, would I be in dire need of a retune with the cam, head and intake p&p, headers, exhaust and around 9.7:1 comp?

Could retune for best performance or track down a stock prom for a car that has the bigger cam. Not sure what year auto 305 got the L98 cam if any at all
