Re: My Camaro Dies
lots of possibilities to cause that, but these caused the symptom with 3 cars I have:
-82 z28:bad connection to fuel pump relay(my fault)strangely, the loose connection kept setting code for MAP circuit, causing me to look there..
-69 Camaro:bad ignition switch.
-91 buick:bad ECM-never set codes, but swapped it out and problem was fixed.

I hope it's not the egr valve it was a pain to change it. I did change the fuel pump relay I am going to take a look at the ignition switch. Something else it dose is crank for a long time but only when I go to turn it on for the first time in the day. I don't know if that has anything to do with each other.

Re: My Camaro Dies
Long cranking times can be caused by a faulty fuel pump relay, but because it is in parallel with the oil pump pressure switch the engine needs to crank long enough to raise the oil pressure high enough for the oil pressure switch to energize the fuel pump circuit.
Re: My Camaro Dies
If my problem is any different when mine shuts off it's hard to turn back on even with the foot to the metal and when it does turn on alot of black smoke come out , I'm going to start by replacing the EGR valve and how hard can that be to replace any suggestions would help!

Black smoke is a rich condition. injectors might be leaking, and or ECM coolant temp sensor is reading too cold. If the fuel pressure regulator diaphragm is ruptured fuel will be sucked into the manifold.
Have you checked for error codes?
I would not bother with the EGR until it has been tested there is a test procedure on this forum, you'll have to search for it.
Re: My Camaro Dies
I'm sorry for the delay and thank you very much for the input, but when my ride shuts off in the middle of a red light that happens to turn green its kinda of a rush! Lol but yes the check engine light comes on at times and shuts off before I can even get to a mechanic and people tell me that when the check engine light shuts off for the most part it will clear the code. But again Iam gladly appreciate the help thank you!

Re: My Camaro Dies
Most auto parts store can read the codes for free. I think that if when you get there just turn the ignition to the engine off/ key on position they'll be able to read the codes. I almost sure that the code is still in memory. Anyway it worth a try, won't cost you anything.
Re: My Camaro Dies
Thanks for that info, I just got back fom a shop and they got a code 054 witch it says fuel pump relay so I'll replace that 1st and hopefully it would solve my problem, thanks again and I'll let u guys know good to go.
