intermittent vibration please HELP!!!!!
So When I am driving at highway speeds [50- 65] the car will shake off and down at 50. The vibration kinda ebbs on until l the vibration gets so bad the dash board is literally shaking up and down like an inch then it starts smoothing out and starts it all over again. The vibration is not rpm related since I have a manual if i slip it into neutral it doesn't help at all. I do notice if I accelerate hard the car will shake so much its unbearable by 80 i must back off. i am going to go get a alignment tommorrow

Re: intermittent vibration please HELP!!!!!
Sounds more like a driveshaft issue. out of phase, balance or bent, or bent axle.
Get rear off the ground, tack it up and have a look, see

Re: intermittent vibration please HELP!!!!!
Doubtful, you looking for bent or loose parts. Bad out of round tire, bent rim, would do it as well. If you don't work on your own stuff, your probably better off taking it to whoever does your work

Here's a question.....
Do you feel it in the steering wheel or in the seat of your pants?
Steering wheel=front tires, ball joint or alignment
Seat of pants=rear tires, axle or drive line

Re: intermittent vibration please HELP!!!!!
This is a bump slash update (sorry about such a long gap). So the Vibration definitely doesn't feel like it is coming from the front but from the rear. I got the driveshaft balanced at a reputable driveline shop the clerk welded some weights on it and I think he said it was bent (not sure if he did so don't quote me). Though It didn't seem to help at all it actually feels worse hard to say though but it is definitely different. the car previously would be fine but as soon as you hit 65 it was like hitting a light switch but now I can feel it start ebbing on as soon as i hit 45 I took it up to 55 and it was getting worse I am scared to take it past there so I just took it home and parked it I was kinda bummed out. I have a v6 firebird that is as smooth as silk I have taken that thing up t 95 and it was good so I swapped the rear tires on to the camaro and it still does the same thing. So I am not sure what to do are there any more tests i can do any help would be appreciated

Re: intermittent vibration please HELP!!!!!
Sounds like you have a (to quote from my old Jeep XJ days) "death wobble."
First thing to do is check and make sure your rims haven't thrown any weights, if they have, or you don't know, then get them balanced.
Second thing to do is to replace all of your bushings front and rear (or just any that haven't been replaced already). ESPECIALLY in the control arms.
This is a very common problem on Jeep Cherokee XJ's, the factory bushings wear out and then at various speeds, and intermittently, the thing with very well shake you off the road. Happened on mine, after having the tires balanced MULTIPLE times, replaced all the bushings and it drove like a Cadillac.
You're probably thinking "but I have a camaro...?" Well the only reason I say this is because the symptoms you described are exactly the same.
Hope that helps.

I am not opposed to replacing all the bushings but it does the shake for like 10 sec then goes away then starts back between 10-30 sec. I will definitely try that thanks man

Re: intermittent vibration please HELP!!!!!
If the shop balanced it then rotating it wouldn't do anything (it's still just going to be spinning the same way, ya know?)
You could go to a junkyard and see if you can find a 4th gen driveshaft, they're aluminum, might help.

Re: intermittent vibration please HELP!!!!!
alright will do man but I think there is another vibration also when I am in park it really seems to shake the worse at 2000 rpm to 3000 rpm. I went to a transmission shop and the guy test drove it and he pointed it out. I am sure this is a factor but not sure how much

The stock driveshaft is NFG for high-performance use, it is not balanced.

He said he thought that it could be the flywheel but he didn't know. No I haven't checked them but I will check them

Re: intermittent vibration please HELP!!!!!
Do you still have the driveline vibrations? Do you have discs or drum brakes? My drums were causing a similar issue at higher speeds because they were out of balance. It appeared that some of the original drum weights fell off.

Re: intermittent vibration please HELP!!!!!
You might be on to something there. When I swapped the tires from my firebird to my camaro I noticed that the firebird has 2 weights on each side where as the camaro has one weight on the drivers side drum. I am going to do a disc brake swap so I will see if that helps
