New to me 84 Berlinetta won't start

I shut my car off upon arriving at college this afternoon. Went to move it later on and instead of starting, it just screeched instead of starting. I think it could be the starter. But I would like your ideas.

Is not a " starting " problem but a " starter" problem

Pull the starter and have it checked out.
While it is out check for damage on the ring gear

Okay. I'm having it towed to a shop tomorrow morning because its too cold for me to mess with. But I just needed to know what was going on so I could convince my parents not take want to take it back.
