SO... does the plenum really have to come off to change the egr valve ?

does anyone know of any videos on this subject, before I get stuck in
any direction or tips would be most welcome, spanners at the ready...
(i'm from the uk we have spanners as apposed to wrenches )

Yep. Upper plenum needs to come off. It is pretty straight forward. Most oem bolts are torx. You'll need a ratchet and the proper size torx bit/socket. I think it is a T35 but you might want to verify. If your plenum is attached to the runners by regular hex bolts use the appropriate size socket and remove the 8 bolts.
You might need to loosen the runner to lower plenum bolts to make it easier to remove and re-install the upper. It will also help save your gaskets.
The egr valve is attached by 2 bolts and the wire. Unplug the connector, remove the two bolts and the valve.
You might find it easier to remove the throttle, cruze and TV cable on the side of the plenum so you can get it out of your way completely.
Installation is the reverse of removal.
You might need to loosen the runner to lower plenum bolts to make it easier to remove and re-install the upper. It will also help save your gaskets.

It really helps if you have some long torx bits, 4" or 6". Some of the lower runner bolts are really hard to get to with short bits.
