Re: cam help pls

Flat tappet or HR?
CR?
What rpm are you willing to turn?
ie. unless there's a whole lot more to it than "chevy pink rods", I wouldn't be aiming for 7000!

Is it .010" over or is it a 355 ?

HR , and yes i be leave it was bored and honed ,from the stock 010 block to make it a 355, my main problem is i dont know whats in in for pistons, and im not ripping her all apart to find out, i use to have a rpm cam that was 488-510, so i want the most lump i can get with out completely killing my vacume

Re: cam help pls

The old iron Sportsman II heads flowed decent on the intake but lousy on the exhaust. Use a cam with about 6-8* more exhaust duration than intake. Something like the Comp XE274 would be in the ballapark of making optimum power, assuming the motor was built with anything close to 10:1 compression (flattop pistons, 64cc chambers in the heads). It'll be plenty "choppy" at idle but still make enough vacuum to keep the power brakes happy. Barely.

If in doubt, step down a notch to something like the Comp XE268. Even with lower compression, say around 9:1 it should still belt out plenty of midrange torque.

Re: cam help pls

I have the world Sportsman II heads. I"m running a Lunati 60121 Cam. It's not a "lumpty lump" cam, but it has a little rumble to it that's noticeable. Otherwise It sounds like we have a very similar motor build.

Also, if you port the exhaust side of the Sportsmans, they come within 20% of the equivalent AFR's according to one of the flow-charts I came across.
