Rocker to valve tip alignment off

Only one on the whole engine that looks like this, reason I took the valve covers off is to readjust valves due to really bad idle and low rpm jerking/stuttering.

As you can see, its extremely far off, so far it is making the pushrod contact the head. All pushrod holes have been over sized 1/8" already.

These are 906 vortec heads.

Only thing I can think of is the stud is not installed straight? Any ideas?

This picture was taken while the engine was running.

Either you're missing your guide plates or those heads need self-aligning rocker arms. That big hole where the pushrod is sticking through is NOT going to align the rockers like a set of guideplates or self-aligning rockers would.

Re: Rocker to valve tip alignment off

Unless the rocker is self aligning, you need guide plates or the hole through the head is used as a guide plate to keep the rocker aligned. If the hole has been enlarged then there's nothing to keep the rocker from moving around across the valve tip.

The hole through the head needs to be fixed or you're going to have to find some way to use guide plates. Without screw in studs, that isn't going to be an easy fix.

Buy a set of shaft rockers. T&D etc. No need for guide plates and you can have the pushrod hole as big as you want.

Rockers are self aligning.

Comp 1617-16

This is the only rocker in the entire valve terrain that is like this, leading me to think elsewhere.

One rocker for guide plate mixed in. Get them to replace that one rocker.

Perhaps, what are the differences between the two? (Physically)

Re: Rocker to valve tip alignment off

A self aligning rocker will have some sort of guides to keep the roller on the valve stem. Something on either side of the roller to keep it aligned. If there's nothing to keep the roller from sliding off the valve stem then they are not self aligning rockers.

Is the pushrod bent?

Pushrod is straight as an arrow.

Gotta give it to you guys, when you're right, you're right.
Will be contacting Comp...
