adjusting timing on tpi
I have read where you can unplug the connector that allows the computer to adjust timing and adjust base timing. I know factory base timing is 6 degrees. I've read several people saying you can bump the timing up to 12 on a stock ish engine and it'll be ok, any more and it's to much. My engine is fairly stock, some bolt ons, an exhaust, and opening up the air intake big time. I was thinking of go with 10 degrees bar, to keep it on the safe side.
I've been reading lately that if you adjust base timing this way, it somehow hurts performance. It doesn't make sense to me, but I figured I'd check with you guys on it first. Should not make a difference, but its the 350tpi.
Thanks

Re: adjusting timing on tpi
I suggest you try 8 first, and move in 2 degree increments.
Mine will ping over 8.
Edit:
It's possible that some are getting knock retard from pinging, with too much base timing,

Didn't notice anything, I'd just set it at 8 years ago, once I found the EST connector and learned how to check/set the timing, pretty sure I set it back to 6 for smog teasting, and just left it.
The majority, if not all of, your performance is done via PROM tuning.

right. I plan to order a chip from a man named John Wayne who custom burns them, I've been hearing good things about the chips he sells.

Bump the timing, use highest octane you can, (93) and fuel PSI along with other "free mods" will help more than another chip. (do it at the tack for best results)
