ignition cylinder removal issues
Ive read plenty of threads about removing a ingition cylinder, and successfully removed the one on the 88 steering column i bought, but im having issues with the column out of my car a 89. I pulled the steering wheel on my car the same way i pulled it on 88 column, but im unable to get to the ring for the lock pad. I cant seem to get a picture to upload but it's a metal piece that looks like the steering wheel sets into... any help would greatly appreciated, thanks yall.

Are you talking about the plastic cover?
If so, it pops right out, and snaps back into place. Just pry it up.

Are you talking about the C-clip? You need to get a small pair of needle nose pliers or something similar and pop it out. You have to slowly move it up the shaft

Do i have to pull the c clip before that piece of metal will come out? That metal plate above the dust cover is whats giving me issues

Re: ignition cylinder removal issues
It's possible that is a steering wheel adapter...it appears to have holes to use a steering wheel puller on...are those holes threaded on the inner round piece?

Yea, its definitely the steering wheel adapter. It looks like it just pushes on like the steering wheel..

Re: ignition cylinder removal issues
They were threaded but the last person to have to car broke when they started to take off the wheel, so there are part of a bolt in the adapter

Re: ignition cylinder removal issues
Thats a tapered fit over the splines...you'll need a wheel puller...if the threads are messed up, you may have to drill over size and re tap them.

Re: ignition cylinder removal issues
are you talking about the start rod?
New parts are available, but I for get where (just changed the column in my '89...while looking for info on it, I came across parts)...you could use the piece from your other column...some time involved, but if money is tight...
PS...assume going into your '88?...nothing to disable, as you don't have the VAT's module in the car.
