strange oil leak inside of car

Hello third GEN people today I bought my dream project a 1988 Camaro. When looking over the whole car I notice all the wires under the dash on the driver side were very oily. I looked at the carpet and noticed that it was very discolored pulled up the carpet and saw a small puddle of oil under it. Looking for the source of all the oil I saw a small copper tube all bent up and I'm 99% sure this is where the oil has been comming from. Does anybody know what this tube is, what does it do, and how to fix it or where can I get a new tube and where does it go any help will be appreciated I have attached pictures (the links) of the tube so you can get a idea what I am referring to. Thanks and happy holidays.

Is or was there an aftermarket oil pressure gauge in the car at one time? My guess is that copper line goes to the engine, find where it goes, take it off and plug or cap the hole with a fitting.

I don't know if their was an aftermarket oil pressure gauge on the car. I found where The copper tube goes as shown in the pictures. I thought about blocking it but I just wanted to make sure it wasn't something important.

Yes , it IS important !

It's important that you follow that copper tube all the way to where it joins the engine block , and properly cap it off . The other poster is right , it WAS an aftermarket gauge and someone somewhere along the line took the gauge and just folded over the copper tube and tucked it out of the way . Well , as you've found out , these will leak when not properly removed upon aftermarket gauge removal . It is important because it's only slowly leaking , now ..... Ever see how much oil one of those can squirt at 40 PSI oil pressure when the folded end of it lets go ?

Sorry, I didn't look at all of the pics because I kept getting some adware popup to install something so I quit clicking on your pic links. I went back and looked at the last one and that is what you want to take out and find a plug to put in its place. Suggest a little thread sealer around it before you thread in the new plug just to make sure it doesn't leak there.

Ok everyone thanks so much of the help. One more question should I just seal it off the proper way, or should I buy a oil pressure gauge in place of what there.

Depends on whether or not you need an oil pressure gauge. My '89 has an oil pressure gauge in the cluster so I don't need a separate one. IF you choose to install an aftermarket oil gauge, I'd highly recommend you still yank that copper tubing out of there and use a more up to date nylon tubing (or whatever they make it out of now-a-days).
