Is this Normal?

I hope this is normal, but it sort of caught me by surprise today. I was taking a peak under my new (to me) T/A, just checking things out, and realized that I can actually see the flywheel and torque converter. Every other car I've worked on these have been inside the bellhousing and not visible. Is this normal??
BTW: stock LG4 305 and 700R4 trans.

You can sorta see what I am talking about in this photo, to the right of the yellow oil filter:

Re: Is this Normal?

Yes it's normal, for a car that's missing the dust cover that goes there.

Re: Is this Normal?

GM auto trans cars would have a plastic dust shield bolted to the front bottom of the trans to cover the torque converter... They are almost never put back on and in a lot of cases took off on purpose to cool the trans/converter better.

Also the bolt holes break out and cover falls off.

There are always a few for sale on Fleabay. The thing with the cover is it keeps rocks, water, and small mammals out of that area.

If you weren't in Canada I'd say I'd sell you the one I have sitting in my garage taking up floor space. It's for a TH350 though, not sure if it'd fit.
