Oil pressure?

Hey all,

I've been rebuilding my 305 over the last month, and replaced the main bearings, rod bearings, rings, lifters, and all the gaskets. I was just priming it with my 1/2 in drill and eventually got oil out of all the rockers on the drivers side and a couple on the passenger side. So I'm feeling pretty good about the oil passages. I hooked a pressure gauge up to it, and was getting about 42 PSI. Is the oil pressure good? I had friend say he had about 65 PSI. Sorry if this question seems minute, but I'm just paranoid about making sure everything is good before I put the motor into the car, especially when it comes to oil pressure. Thanks!

Re: Oil pressure?

42 psi using a drill should be more than enough oil pressure. I was getting 30 psi on mine with just a regular hand-drill and it pegs at 60 when it's not fully warmed up.

EDIT: Do be sure that the bolts on the cover for the oil pump are tight though. Three out of the four bolts on mine fell out and I was essentially running on near-zero oil pressure for a while there before I could lift the engine to drop the pan.
