Horsepower estimates on build????

I have a 88 L98 IROC, here's the list of parts I'm bolting on

GM vortec heads 1.94/1.5 brand new from summit
Scoggin Dickey lower intake
Comp cams 1.6 roller tip rockers
BBK 3 pc underdrive pulleys
Hooker shorty headers
Hooker Hi-flow y pipe
24lb injectors
BBK adjustable fuel pressure regulator

Leaving everything else alone, no money for a cam right now, if I ever have to crack into the shortblock I will.

The car will be professionally tuned for 93 octane at a local shop with a chassis dyno

I'm just curious what you guys think the hp/torque possibility is with this combination. I know it will obviously be a low rpm torquer, with stock upper and runners.

250 hp and 330 tq to the tires is my guess, maybe a little more with chilled runners.

Re: Horsepower estimates on build????

I considered aftermarket runners, really the only available readily being the edelbrock's, but I wasn't sure what kind of gains I'd experience with the stock cam. I know the Scoggin Dickey lower flows a lot more than the stock lower, which is a bottleneck from the factory, as is the exhaust.

Any thoughts on benefits of runners? Just hard to shell out almost $500 for what seems to be only geared towards shifting the power curve upward for a higher rpm cam.

It's at force engineering waiting for dyno tune for 93 octane. It's going to be a few weeks before they can get to it.

254/322, I ended up not doing the under drives. Good guess!

I'm impressed by the gains of pretty minor mods, especially putting those numbers down through a 700r.

Very nice!!! ASM runners will shift your powerband up slightly and work with a future cam upgrade but retain plenty of low-end torque.

I am surprised you did not go with the underdrives. I have a March 3-piece underdrive pulley set on my Vortec 350 in my Express van. Although it does have a large mechanical driven clutch fan on it, the difference in throttle response and power across the whole rpm range was noticeable.

You'd barely notice it and the torque loss is non-existent.

I don't know if I could put any money into a TPI system now that wasn't a First. Aftermarket TPI stuff can't come near making what I want to make now.

The only people making serious power on TPI style intakes are either running Firsts, or extremely modified TPI stuff with custom plenum/runners. Those builds are amazing, but they do take alot of work.

I put siamese ported SLPs on my 350 and the difference was night and day from 4,000+. Traded a little torque down low, but what I lost there came back by 3,500 and pulled linearly to 6,200 rpm.
