Horsepower estimates on build????
Horsepower estimates on build????
I have a 88 L98 IROC, here's the list of parts I'm bolting on
GM vortec heads 1.94/1.5 brand new from summit
Scoggin Dickey lower intake
Comp cams 1.6 roller tip rockers
BBK 3 pc underdrive pulleys
Hooker shorty headers
Hooker Hi-flow y pipe
24lb injectors
BBK adjustable fuel pressure regulator
Leaving everything else alone, no money for a cam right now, if I ever have to crack into the shortblock I will.
The car will be professionally tuned for 93 octane at a local shop with a chassis dyno
I'm just curious what you guys think the hp/torque possibility is with this combination. I know it will obviously be a low rpm torquer, with stock upper and runners.

Re: Horsepower estimates on build????
I considered aftermarket runners, really the only available readily being the edelbrock's, but I wasn't sure what kind of gains I'd experience with the stock cam. I know the Scoggin Dickey lower flows a lot more than the stock lower, which is a bottleneck from the factory, as is the exhaust.
Any thoughts on benefits of runners? Just hard to shell out almost $500 for what seems to be only geared towards shifting the power curve upward for a higher rpm cam.

I am surprised you did not go with the underdrives. I have a March 3-piece underdrive pulley set on my Vortec 350 in my Express van. Although it does have a large mechanical driven clutch fan on it, the difference in throttle response and power across the whole rpm range was noticeable.

I don't know if I could put any money into a TPI system now that wasn't a First. Aftermarket TPI stuff can't come near making what I want to make now.
The only people making serious power on TPI style intakes are either running Firsts, or extremely modified TPI stuff with custom plenum/runners. Those builds are amazing, but they do take alot of work.

You'd barely notice it and the torque loss is non-existent.
